CBT I: Leader Training Program

Training Programs

The cadet cadre for the first phase of Cadet Basic Training are currently engaged in a series of training events in preparation of receiving more than 1,200 cadet candidates on Reception Day, June 27. This Leader Training Program will ensure the cadet cadre is ready to take on the responsibilities of trainers for the new cadet candidates. The cadets split into company formations on the morning of June 14 for a 3.2 ruck march throughout West Point. In the afternoon, these cadets will test their physical and mental agility on the Leader Reaction Course. Photo by Mike Strasser, West Point Public Affairs

Personal Training Program Expectations

Article by Bill Burns

More and more people are now opting to have a personal training program as opposed to group training. You can do personal training at the gym or at the comfort of your own home. Wherever you choose to have your personal training, you should have a program expectations list. This will serve as your guideline at the end of your training program if it is effective or not.

Your program expectations should depend on the level of the personal training program you have chosen. A program is a training program that is tailor-made for a certain individual according to his physical needs, his mental and body health and his desired effect after the training. A personal program is also done on a one-on-one basis so that the trainer can focus his attention on a single individual at a given time. People are social by nature, and if there is someone helping you individually, you are far more likely to achieve the fitness results that you are looking for. Personal training programs are switched up everyday to minimize boredom and to achieve a little bit of everything everyday. Studies show that experiencing a variety of exercises not only makes a person more likely to continue with their fitness program, but also is best for the body because it works out different muscle groups and raises endurance.

Personal programs also benefit the trainer in the sense that he can also train side by side with his student. The trainer will get to know his student personally and will know his student’s weaknesses and strengths. It will also allow the person being trained to feel more comfortable with the exercise program where they might be intimidated doing it in the gym with many people watching. This is sometime the reason why many people don’t continue going to the gym especially if they are new to the fitness world. When just starting out, exercising can be downright uncomfortable, which leads to a higher incidence of quitting altogether. It can find ways to motivate you and keep you going, even when the going is hard.

A training program not only involves all the exercises but it also involves assisting the student with his diet and nutrition needs. This is done because diet and exercise should come hand in hand in order to achieve the best result there is. A program takes all the difficulty of exercising and dieting and as you go on the program, you will notice that it will all come naturally to you and you won’t be conscious anymore. Another thing to expect from a training program is that you personal trainer should have at least a basic knowledge of exercise physiology, kinesiology and nutrition. All of these things are learned from a training course. As time goes by and you feel confident, you won’t need your trainer anymore. This is the ultimate result that a personal training program is aiming for and should be the ultimate expectation.

Training Programs question by Louise: Are there any good training programs for teaching horses to ride without bridles?
I really wish I could train my horse to respond to simple leg ques and light pressure on his neck to turn and such. Kinda like Stacy Westfall. I have no fear riding bareback & bridless. I just want to train the horse to know what to do!! Any training programs were I could learn to do this? Thanks

Natural horsemanship ALL the way. It combines trust and riding bareback and bridless.

If you think you want this, or that someone might like it, you’re probably right.

It might be a bit overwhelming for a young kid with no guidance but I feel like it’s a perfect “learn by doing” training kit for understanding electronic component assembly and design.

If you’re not on a tight budget I’d recommend going with the higher numbered kits. You can always upgrade but (at least for me) there’s merit to removing friction/barriers to momentum when I’m learning a new subject. OTOH you could always use upgrade purchases as incentives for progress.

The documentation seems excellent. I’m still working through the Student manual. I haven’t used the (Windows only) computer interface so I can’t comment more on that.

You’ll definitely want to buy the AC adapter (not included, there is a space for it in the case). Although in short order you’ll probably be able to build your own ;-) .

Awesome kit for kids and teens. My 10 and 12 year old boys spend hours putting together electronic projects and haven’t even gotten to the coolest part – hooking the leads to the family computer to use the imbedded Oscilliscope (shows the shape, duration, amplitude of the electricity (harmless battery power only) at various points in the circuits they create. Over 700 projects and easy to understand samples of each with great directions. My boys just call me in to check out their project when finished (I don’t even help them usually).

I like the case too – I believe it’s worth the extra money to get it – keeps everything organized.

We’ve only been playing with this for about a week, but my 8 and 11 year olds are having a blast with it. This is a great teaching tool. Just by the way the projects are sequenced they are able to learn a lot about electronics. This product includes the Student Guide and Teachers Guide which we haven’t used yet, but it looks fantastic and will ensure that this doesn’t end up just being a bag of gadgets. It also has a computer interface (not used yet) but that looks like another great piece to the whole kit. This kit has it all.

I think Stacy has some videos out, search for her website. Otherwise, training a horse to worke bridless is like teaching every other thing. Give the cue you want the horse to listen to, then make the horse do the action you want. For example, you want the horse to stop when you shift your weight back, and close your legs around him. Do just that, then apply the reins for the stop. Do that over and over, soon the horse will anticipate the rein pull and will stop when you give the weight and leg cue. After your horse begins to get the idea, you can sharpen his response by being more firm with the rein (for example) cue, if he ignores the weight and leg cue.

My horse will change gaits up and down, stop and back, circle and pivot with the reins tied around the horn. Now, I have to admit, if I take the bridle completely off, he is not so good, but I haven’t tried that in a closed arena, only in the pasture that opens to the barn ;)

If you live close to MI, I have one every other week.
You can also do this yourself if your Horse is train using your Leg Cues. If you have a small pen, you could start with just a Halter and lead- I don’t like using a saddle nether when I ride without a bridle.
Leg cues is something you could work on, a long with your hands, I had one horse, where I rode down the road to a stables near by with out Bridle nor saddle. Just Horse and Rider.
Start your horse your self, learn to do leg, and hands, and voice commands- Walk- trot and canter, with your lead rope.
From there, you can go without bridle, in a small paddock, or round pen.
But please, even though, I was only thirteen when I first started doing this, I am now fifty five, and bones break more easily.
But once you have experience this, you are going to love it!
    So please stay safe.

Find a good REINING trainer in your area and take lessons. If you look at all the horses who show bridleless 98% of them are reiners. I can pull the bridle off every single one of my reiners from stallions to mares and ride them and make them do anything I want including spin and sliding stops. They are all finished reiners with no other training to ride with out a bridle. They are just that well trained.

When it comes down to it there is no magic to any of it. Just takes time training and a lot of work.

  7. Montella says:

Hmm… Natural Horsemanship (Parelli) is basically dedicated towards what you want to achieve. It’s dedicated towards a partner-ship in where you practically think what you want to do and the horse responds.
At the end you can ride your horse with absolutely nothing (nothing on it’s head, nothing on it’s back) and do anything with it like that; jump, dressage etc.

Parelli does courses (lessons) which you advance through the levels in. They are expensive, but definately worth the money.
I you want a less expensive alternative, there is always the movies. That, too, is expensive so if you wanted something even cheaper you can get the book(s?).

    I definately recommend Parelli. =D

    Also, good luck with it!
