<p>There are two major elements that determine any driver&#8217;s success in motor racing and those are; the machine that they&#8217;re operating and themselves (their skill level as well as their overall level of fitness). It goes without saying that competitors would focus intently and devote maximum resources to their machine, but what about themselves? How many drivers focus just as intently on their own personal fitness as on the machine that carries them? In general not enough of them do. Bear in mind this is drivers in general, because if you were to check with the consistent winners, what you would find is that pretty much all of them pay close attention to their physical fitness. </p>
<p>What it takes to keep them in top physical shape is a changing trend though. Increasingly today&#8217;s up and coming competitors now realize the importance of physical fitness in motor sports, it&#8217;s not just to give them the winning edge either, which by the way it will. </p>
<p>Rather, it&#8217;s stark financial considerations as well. Because in this modern era more competitors are now realizing that the competition doesn&#8217;t end after the race is over. Competition for sponsors goes on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No matter what season it is.</p>
<p>The bottom line is that it pays not just in purse money to be physically fit, it also pays to look your personal best as well. So today, more racers than ever are using physical fitness programs, which are programs that are designed specifically to address the unique requirements of a motor racer.</p>
<p>For instance if you&#8217;re just starting out, there are DVD sets that can fit into even the tightest budget. Or if you have the money to spend, there are programs that can partner you up with your own personal fitness trainer. Then in between those two options, there are motor racing physical fitness programs that you can attend in a group setting. </p>
<p>Either way, no matter what your budget will allow you, what&#8217;s most important is that you do implement some type of program that addresses your physical fitness as it pertains to motor racing.</p>
<p>On another related topic, when most people; and you may be one of them, make the connection between racing and fitness. Generally what comes to mind is the physical part of it. <p>Once you get your doctor&#8217;s opinion then the next step is to figure out just how you are going to go about it. Should you invest in you own equipment or would it be better to join a fitness club? There might be times that it is better for you to join a fitness club so that there would be someone there that can help you stay on the right track of becoming a fit and happy person.</p>
<p>It is not a bad idea to have some kind of fitness program set up for all of us nowadays. We may all have let our self go at one point in our life and now is the time to get our old bodies back in shape. It might just be time that we all get a good fitness program and start living a healthy life. Don&#8217;t take too long to talk to your doctor or to the local gym and see what would be the best route for a fitness program for yourself.

<p>What&#8217;s the most common New Year&#8217;s resolution today? Going on a diet fitness program. However, very, very few people achieve their fitness goals after making such a decision. </p>
<p>What&#8217;s the reason for this? A lack of commitment. Find any successful person who has achieved a goal in life and you will always find this one common denominator: commitment to achieving their goals.</p>
<p>Now, don&#8217;t get me wrong; it&#8217;s not that everybody who didn&#8217;t achieve their goals were simply too lazy to do so; actually, most of the time their failure was not setting goals and following through on them. Here&#8217;s how to set goals for your diet fitness program and achieve those goals faster than you ever thought possible.</p>
<p>First of all, decide what area of your body needs to be worked out the most and focus on that. For instance, if you know that you don&#8217;t have very good endurance, start on a running program. If you have good endurance but lack arm strength, embark on a weight lifting program.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t have good endurance or muscle strength, don&#8217;t try to do both workouts at once; pick whichever one you enjoy more and focus on that. When you enjoy your diet fitness program, you have a lot more motivation to follow through and achieve your goals.</p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve decided on a diet fitness program, you need to determine what your goals are. Make them something measurable. Don&#8217;t just say, &#8220;I want to get in shape.&#8221; This will not be very motivating to you several weeks down the road because it is impossible to measure. </p>
<p>Here is an example of a measurable goal you can track your progress against: &#8220;I want to lose 30 pounds by the end of the year.&#8221; Now that you have a goal, plan out the steps to achieving it. </p>
<p>Most people might look at a goal of losing 30 pounds in a year&#8217;s period and think that this is impossible to achieve. Actually, when you know how to set goals, it becomes very doable. The best way to make it more manageable is to break it down into manageable chunks. </p>
<p>For instance, 30 pounds in a year equals losing just 2 and a half pounds a month. Sound a bit more achievable? Now, map out how you plan to achieve this. </p>
<p>For instance, you might start out by running a 1/10th of a mile the first week, 2/10ths the second week, and gradually work your way up. When you break your goals down into manageable chunks, you will achieve your fitness program goals faster than you ever thought possible.</p>
<p>The most important part of achieving your goals is sticking to them. In case you didn&#8217;t know it, there are many different diet fitness programs today. Just about all of them work, if you will commit to and follow them. </p>
<p>However, most people spend all their time searching for that magic pill that will help them lose 30 pounds overnight without doing any work. In case you didn&#8217;t realize it, such a pill doesn&#8217;t exist. Therefore, when you get to the middle of your program and realize that it takes hard work and discipline to achieve your fitness goals, don&#8217;t quit.</p>
<p>The best way to get motivation when the going gets tough is to picture your dream body at the end of the diet fitness program. When you are struggling to finish a workout, or considering not getting up on a particular day to exercise, just imagine how good you&#8217;ll feel at the end of the process; this will give you a renewed boost of energy. </p>
<p>When you lose sight of your final aim, achieving your goals becomes next to impossible. Don&#8217;t even pay attention to other advertisements for workout programs. Focus on the fitness program you are doing, stick to it, and you will achieve your fitness goals faster than you ever dreamed possible.

<p>FORT HOOD, Texas – “In a force where 60 percent of Soldiers are married, taking care of Families is more vital than ever,” Gen. George Casey, Army chief of staff, said recently during a visit to the Fort Hood Resiliency Campus in Texas.<br />
Not surprisingly, with seven-plus years of sustained combat, Army leadership is seeking new or improved ways to meet the needs of those military men and women who have experienced increased levels of stress.</p>
<p>One response is the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, a program to build resilience not only physically but mentally, as well. CSF is designed to bring the emotional, social, spiritual and Family aspect of fitness to the same level of importance and cultural acceptance in the Army as physical fitness. </p>
<p>The Army currently faces increased rates of post-traumatic stress, substance abuse and suicide – all serious indicators of Soldier-stress levels. To alleviate this, Army leadership, through the Army Family Covenant, is committed to providing Families a strong, supportive environment where they can thrive.</p>
<p>Historically, and for obvious reason, physical fitness has been an integral part of a Soldier’s military career and the Army has heavily invested time and resources into maintaining a physically fit force.</p>
<p>The mission of CSF is to develop and institute a holistic, resilience-building fitness program for Soldiers, Family members and Army Civilians.  The overarching goal is to provide individually-tailored skill training that leads to a balanced, healthy, self-confident force whose resilience and overall fitness enables them to thrive in this current environment and beyond.</p>
<p>The Army now recognizes that these additional dimensions of fitness are as important to readiness as physical health and fitness.  CSF will develop a program to provide initial assessment and training of all of these dimensions to Soldiers upon enlistment.  </p>
<p>This will be followed by additional training that is incorporated into Army schools, professional military education and deployment cycles.<br />
“Stress isn’t going away,” said Brig. Gen. Rhonda Cornum, CSF director. “What we’re doing with this program is taking good people and making them better.”</p>
<p>Cornum, who holds a PhD in nutrition and biochemistry from Cornell, completed a general surgery internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1987. Since the Persian Gulf conflict – where she served as a flight surgeon, was shot down and captured by Iraqi forces – she began urologic surgery training in 1993 and then took command of the 28th Combat Support Hospital at Fort Bragg, N.C.</p>
<p>Kristen Clouse, along with her husband Pvt. Tim Clouse who recently joined the Army, was invited to meet with Gen. Casey at Fort Hood with other Soldiers and Family members to talk about the CSF program.</p>
<p>“If this program had been available before my dad left for Vietnam, he might have been better prepared,” Kristen said.</p>
<p>“General Casey asked the spouses mainly about how they handle deployment and how it affected the children. Of course, my husband has not deployed yet, but I did comment on how important the time between deployments could mean to Soldiers and their Families,” Kristen said. “I also told him I was thankful that my husband and I had a little over a year before his deployment because it is making the transition from civilian life to Army wife easier for me.”</p>
<p>Kristen also mentioned how important it is for the Soldier and spouse to experience things together.<br />
“Marriages stay together when they grow together. My husband mentioned he took a test to assess any training he might need to increase his mental strength, so I definitely wanted to take the same test. Coming from a military Family I know it’s important to share, not only our hopes and fears, but anything that will help us to grow physically and mentally,” she said.</p>
<p>Families provide mission-essential capability, stability and continuity during war and peace, in support of Soldiers.</p>
<p>Cornum said Soldiers and Family members must be both physically and mentally fit if the Soldiers are going to be their best on the battlefield.</p>
<p>&quot;If we could improve the resilience of the people before they had some adverse event, we might very well be able to have them view it as adverse, but not traumatic,&quot; Cornum said.</p>
<p>Although many think that everybody who enters combat gets post-traumatic stress, it’s not true, says Casey.</p>
<p>“Everybody who goes to combat gets stressed. But the vast majority of people who go to combat have a growth experience because while they&#8217;re exposed to something very, very difficult, they prevail,&quot; Casey said. &quot;So the issue for us is, how do we give more people the skills so that more people have a growth experience?&quot;</p>
<p>Comprehensive Soldier Fitness would equip soldiers ahead of time to deal with traumatic events, Cornum said.</p>
<p>&quot;The best way to treat a heart attack is not CPR,&quot; she said. &quot;The best way is to prevent the heart attack. It&#8217;s a lifestyle and culture change. And that&#8217;s how we should look at mental health. Look at it with a preventative model and enhanced health model, not a &#8216;waiting-till-we-need-therapy&#8217; model.&quot;<br />
Cornum said a &quot;global assessment tool&quot; is under development by the Army to help assess all dimensions of a Soldier, Family member and Army Civilian’s fitness. The tool is expected to be delivered across the Army this year.</p>
<p>CSF is expected to be delivered to Soldiers Army wide in October of 2009. Many of the program’s tools have been developed and tested regionally, including recently at Fort Hood where Casey toured the Resiliency Campus with Ft. Hood Commander Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch. The campus is Lynch’s answer to questions posed by Soldier spouses about quality Family time together.</p>
<p>Lynch, who will become Installation Management commander in November, will be in a position to expand his reach from Ft. Hood to the entire U.S. Army.</p>
<p>“The tour of the Resiliency Campus developed by Lynch may become a model for future CSF campuses,” Col. Jeff Short, MD and CSF team member said.</p>
<p>According to Short, CSF will work with the Fort Hood campus to learn from them, but both might very well learn from each other and incorporate best practices.</p>
<p>On this tour, Casey also witnessed Battlemind training, a psychological debriefing technique, at the Internet Café, and entered into a small group discussion with spouses, Army civilians, and Soldiers who have taken the online Global Assessment Tool (GAT).</p>
<p>The GAT is a questionnaire that is primarily used to determine an individual’s baseline and to link him or her to education and training that will increase their mental strength.</p>
<p>Because CSF will be rolled out in phases with continued modifications of the GAT, everyone will have the opportunity to help make sure the Army has it right.</p>
<p>Developed by subject matter experts from the U.S. military and civilian universities, the GAT, used at various times during a Soldier’s career, will help the Army determine which training is most effective in building strength in the five dimensions of strength: physical, emotional, social, Family, and spiritual.</p>
<p>“Smaller garrisons might not have a campus built,” Short said. “Rather, they may just have a CSF staff. The idea is to have one to three Master Resilience Trainers at each installation. CSF, after all, is about providing resources, not necessarily having a physical location where people can go.”<br />
A potential CSF goal, Short said, is to build a CSF training school. The team may consider Fort Jackson for this, but for various reasons for right now it’s just an idea.</p>
<p>Col. Marsha C. Lilly is strategic communications chief for CSF.</p>
<p>“Most important, CSF is not just for Soldiers. Family members and Army civilians, during the second and third phase of the program’s implementation, will also have the opportunity to participate in the program. Exactly when these subsequent phases will begin is still being determined,” Lilly said.</p>
<p>But with the Association of the U.S. Army currently planning for the October symposium and 497 members of the Family Readiness Groups scheduled to be arriving, the Army is moving quickly to mount all three phases of Comprehensive Soldier Fitness – Gen. Casey’s idea to make sure that Soldiers, Families and Army civilians are prepared.</p>
<p>Currently, full implementation to the entire force, including the Guard and Reserve, is scheduled for this October. Availability for Family members and Army civilians is expected to begin October 2010.</p>

<p><strong>Fitness Programs: Bicycling and Aerobics</strong></p>

<p>One of the ways by which you can improve cardiovascular resistance and training is through biking. You can include bicycling in your fitness programs by listing it in the cardio exercise for every week. Bicycling is not only considered as one of the best, easiest, and most popular forms of exercise, but you can also have much fun while doing it. Cycling appeals to those who want to work with speed and pace. The bike, the main equipment used in bicycling grants less impacts on the joints compared to the typical jogging and aerobics. You will also experience the outdoors which is a plus when doing any outdoor fitness program.</p>
<p>In cycling, you need not worry about investing on a good and sturdy bike to have your cardiovascular exercise. Most bikes can last up to a lifetime if proper maintenance and care is followed. Cycling is not only a way by which you can execute your fitness programs; a bike can also be used for other things, recreational or health-oriented. It provides excellent aerobic conditioning by strengthening the legs, targeting the quadriceps and toning of the muscles. </p>
<p>Do an exercise routine with cycling as part of your fitness programs three to four times a week, for a period of at least 20 minutes. You will notice how your cardiovascular endurance will improve and the higher benefits it produces. </p>
<p>Aerobic (or Cardio) Fitness</p>
<p>Proper weight training will make one&#8217;s body strong but adding a dose of cardiovascular or aerobic exercise to your fitness programs will make it even better. Cardiovascular exercises elevate your heart rate over a sustained period of time to help the cardiovascular muscles and system endure physical activities without strain. </p>
<p>Aerobic exercises are basic components in any form of fitness programs, including weight training. Doing aerobic exercises help decrease body fat levels, and together with weight training, it helps in toning and firming up the target muscles. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends aerobic exercise performed for a minimum of 20 minutes. It should be done at least three times a week, at 60% of the body&#8217;s maximum heart rate. The varying periods by which you perform aerobic exercises will contribute on your progress with a fitness program. </p>
<p>Cardiovascular exercises help the body sustain physically demanding activities over time. You can choose from various sports and activities such as in-line skating, hiking, running, cycling, and walking. Before venturing on a new exercise designed to improve cardiovascular performance, be advised of how important knowing your heart rate is. Consult with your doctor and monitor your heart rate which defines your body&#8217;s reaction on various levels of exercises you will choose. This, in turn, helps in maximizing the efficiency of your fitness programs.

<p>The &#8220;Brain Fitness Program&#8221; is the title of a PBS show that aired in December, 2007. There are a variety of brain fitness programs on the market, today, ranging in price from .99 for Nintendo&#8217;s &#8220;Brain Age 2&#8243; to 5 for Posit Science&#8217;s training program.</p>
<p>With so many different titles to choose from, how do you know which brain fitness program is right for you? You might want to start with some &#8220;freebies&#8221;. There are many on-line websites that offer brain teasers. If you like them, then you may want to &#8220;step-up&#8221; to the Nintendo game, if you own a player.</p>
<p>But, primarily, you want a complete plan. Think of it as a health plan for your brain.</p>
<p>As you exercise your body, you also need to exercise your &#8220;gray matter&#8221;. Regular physical activity is important, including regular aerobic activity 3-5 times per week. Regular physical activity keeps the blood flowing, improves circulation to the brain-cells. If you lead a completely sedentary lifestyle, you will become &#8220;duller and duller&#8221;.</p>
<p>None of the brain fitness programs that you buy in a box will provide everything that you need for continued mental clarity. Along with regular physical activity, you need a healthy diet.</p>
<p>Certain supplements are extremely beneficial. Omega-3 fatty acids, for example, have been an integral part of scientifically controlled brain fitness programs for many years. Other supplements on the market include DMAE, but there is limited scientific research concerning the health benefits of the supplement.</p>
<p>If you are not taking a daily supplement at this time, start with fish oil, but make sure you choose carefully, since there is some &#8220;bad&#8221; stuff out there. Fish oil is the best source of DHA, the omega-3 fatty acid needed to support the brain&#8217;s health.</p>
<p>The next thing to work on is your stress level. Brains under stress do not remember things. They get distracted easily and simply cannot focus for long periods of time. Your complete brain fitness program should include regular meditation to reduce stress.</p>
<p>Once you have these things down, you can start looking for stimulating brain fitness programs. If you are going to buy something, it should be well-designed by a learned group of scientists.</p>
<p>Look for a brain fitness program that specifies the benefits you will receive if you use their system. For example, some brain fitness programs are designed to help improve your memory. Others to help improve concentration and still others that may help improve your overall IQ.</p>
<p>The best exercises for our brains are those that teach us something new, hopefully on a daily basis. If a system becomes boring, you aren&#8217;t learning anything new. But, if it&#8217;s too hard, it can increase your stress level. You should try to find a system that you enjoy, so that you are motivated to &#8220;play&#8221; and one that has increasingly difficult levels.</p>
<p>I just want to mention that PBS&#8217;s &#8220;Brain Fitness Program&#8221; is now available on DVD. The program gives an informative overview concerning the emerging science that shows that people do have the ability to grow new brain-cells and neurons. So, if you&#8217;re starting to lose your memory, there&#8217;s new hope.

A successful program has several benefits to the employee as well as the employer and reaches far beyond simple weight loss.</p>

<p> * Put some incentives in place for the staff (reimburse a portion of a gym membership, allow for flexible hours at work to allow for fitness activities)</p>
<p> * Educate the staff on healthy weight loss diets. One of the best programs for this is the Strip That Fat Program The Program does an excellent job of showing how losing weight can be fun. It teaches exercises that increase lean muscle, therefore speeding up metabolism. One of the best features is that it allows employees to create their own weight loss diet. There are over 40,000 different diet combinations. It is fun for the employee and makes the process interactive.</p>

<p>Keep the fitness program for employees fresh and new to keep the employees motivated. You will see employees will have a better concentration, feel better about their performance, have more energy, improved health and a significant reduction in stress. Employers will see an increase in productivity, a decreased in staff turn over and an increase in morale and teamwork. All of this leads to a more productive workplace.</p>
<p>You should now be on your way to creating a successful fitness program for employees.

<p>I would recommend Virtual Fitness Coach as I have been using it for about 6 months now.  Essentially what it does is puts a personal trainer and all his knowledge at your disposal at just a fraction of the cost of a REAL Life personal trainer.</p>

<p>You fill out a detailed assessment so that they can cater to YOUR SPECIFIC individual fitness goals.  They then keep track of your calories and give you specific workout regiments (complete with video instructions)</p>
<p>My favorite part is that they set up your nutrition plan for each and everyday which really keeps you healthy.  They tell you what to eat, when to eat it and how much!</p>
<p>Lastly they have great customer support and an amazing FAQ section&#8230;one of my favorite tidbits is &#8220;did you know no matter how fat or in shape you are the human body can  only process around 45 Grams of sugar per day&#8230;anything else beyond that is packing it on&#8221;</p>
